The National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) receives its funding through annual Congressional appropriation. Each year, the President submits a budget request to both sides of the Congress–the House Appropriations Committee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Subcommittee, and the Senate Appropriations Committee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Subcommittee. The subcommittees convene hearings to obtain updates on the accomplishments of the HHS and its agencies including NIH, before the budget requests are approved.
