Dr. Luca Calzoni is a supervisory health scientist administrator/program officer in the Division of Community Health and Population Science. He provides leadership, technical supervision, and scientific guidance for research infrastructure innovation. Dr. Calzoni's expertise extends to social determinants of health and developing data science programs for research organizations, emphasizing the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) solutions into researcher/clinician workflows.
Dr. Calzoni co-founded and oversees NIMHD’s Science Collaborative for Health disparities and Artificial intelligence bias Reduction program also known as ScHARe, which aims to revolutionize research in health disparities and AI bias mitigation. He supervises research innovation projects, including the NIH Common Fund’s Faculty Institutional Recruitment for Sustainable Transformation program. Dr. Calzoni also plays a role in several NIH-wide data harmonization efforts and in developing Common Data Elements (CDEs) for the NIH CDE Repository and the ScHARe program.
Dr. Calzoni earned a medical degree from Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and a master’s in biomedical informatics from the University of Pittsburgh. As a Ph.D. candidate in the Biomedical Informatics doctoral program at the University of Pittsburgh, he continues to advance research and innovation in his field.
