This initiative will support research to understand the long-term effects of disasters on healthcare systems serving populations experiencing health disparities in the U.S. and its territories, especially during events in which healthcare systems are or have been vulnerable to disruptions.
The initiative is intended to help align R21 applications to NIMHD’s extramural research interest areas and promote investigator-initiated exploratory or developmental research with the potential to break new ground in minority health and health disparities science.
The proposed centers will conduct multidisciplinary research, research training, and community engagement activities aimed at alleviating environmentally driven health disparities and improving access to healthy environments for vulnerable populations.
The purpose of this initiative is to advance the science of minority health and health disparities by supporting research on family health and well-being and resilience. The NIMHD Research Framework recognizes family health, family well-being, and family resilience as critically important areas of research.
This initiative will support research to improve the measurement of complex social constructs that captures the lived experience of populations experiencing health disparities.
