History

OER-IG was formed in 2010 to provide a forum for information exchange and dialogue across NIH, in part in response to a changing health services research environment, including:

  • Creation of Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).
  • NIH launch and funding of the Common Fund-supported Research Collaboratory.
  • Emerging FDA interest in using “real world” data in approval processes.

For many years OER-IG met in Building 1 on the NIH campus to hear from methodologists, experts on topics of interest, staff of other HHS agencies, and leaders of national organizations. The COVID pandemic forced a switch to virtual meetings that are more consistent with a speaker series.
