Intramural Research
On the NIH campus, NIMHD researchers conduct collaborative, transdisciplinary, high-risk and high-impact research and fosters the next generation of researchers studying minority health and health disparities through the Division of Intramural Research (DIR).
Intramural Branches
Our investigators seek to understand the complex mechanisms that contribute to health disparities, develop multi-level socio-behavioral interventions to reduce these disparities, and promote the health and well-being of populations experiencing health disparities.
Social and Behavioral Sciences
This branch conducts social and behavioral science research, a multidisciplinary field consisting of health services, psychology, engineering, epidemiology, data, behavioral, and decision sciences.
Population and Community Health Sciences
This branch conducts multidisciplinary population-level and community-based research that examines social, cultural, clinical, biological, behavioral, and contextual factors and their effects on the health of populations experiencing health disparities.
Epidemiology and Genetics
This branch conducts collaborative genetic and epidemiologic research to explain mechanisms affecting the diagnosis, progression, and treatment of chronic diseases that disproportionately affect populations experiencing health disparities.
Intramural Programs
The DIR collaborates with intramural and extramural researchers to promote and increase minority health and health disparities research and develop the biomedical research workforce.
NIMHD Adjunct Faculty
The NIMHD adjunct professor program aims to increase NIH-wide health disparities research and promote biomedical research workforce development.
Intramural Research Training
NIMHD participates actively in NIH intramural research training programs, supporting the next generation of researchers, developing the biomedical research workforce and building capacity to conduct cutting-edge transdisciplinary research.
