• Discuss the pervasiveness of health disparities among Black people and the social and structural determinants that underlie health inequities
• Describe the historical role of science and scientists in creating and perpetuating racism and racial health inequities
• Identify opportunities for research and researchers to address racial health inequities
• Explain the importance systems-level change in creating and integrating equitable and inclusive policies and initiatives to achieve health equity

• Guidelines recommend primary diabetes screening but also secondary screening for diabetes-related complications, and disparities vary by phase of screening
• There are arguments both for and against race-based primary diabetes screening
• Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, and Native American/Alaska Native patients are less likely than White patients to successfully achieve primary and secondary diabetes prevention, due to social and environmental pressures
