Solicited and Investigator-Initiated Research Project Grants
NIMHD supports a wide variety of Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) related to solicited and investigator-initiated research projects grants (RPGs, e.g., R01, R21, R03, R15, R41/R42, R43/R44) within the Institute’s three main extramural research interest areas:
- Clinical and Health Services Research
- Integrative Biological and Behavioral Sciences
- Community Health and Population Science
Solicited research projects are funded under various Requests for Applications (RFAs), whereas investigator-initiated research projects are funded under NIH-wide “parent” Program Announcements (PAs), as well as PAs or PARs targeting specific scientific topics (see List of Programs below). NIMHD also supports several Notices of Special Interest (NOSIs) related to a specific scientific area linked to an active FOA.
All projects must focus on one or more populations experiencing health disparities, which include African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders, socioeconomically disadvantaged populations, rural populations, and sexual/gender minority groups.
