Dr. Emily Capolongo is the disability outreach coordinator in the NIMHD’s Office of Communications and Public Liaison. In this role, Dr. Capolongo works with NIMHD and NIH staff to establish engagement and outreach efforts that support the designation of people with disabilities as a health disparity population.
With over 12 years of experience in the disability field, Dr. Capolongo has served as an educator, curriculum developer, service coordinator, and educational advocate. She possesses a robust background in disability research and has collaborated with advocates and communities to improve outcomes for individuals with disabilities. Notably, Dr. Capolongo is founder of Life With Myself and Others, a business dedicated to training parents, educators, and caretakers on supporting the sexual health and social wellness needs of young people with disabilities. She also conducts dating groups and classes on this sensitive topic to ensure that young people are well-informed, safe, and foster a healthy sense of well-being.
Dr. Capolongo earned her doctorate in special education from The George Washington University, a master's degree in Severe Special Education with an autism spectrum disorder specialization from Boston College, and a bachelor's in special education from High Point University.
