Dr. Mohammed Elfaramawi is a senior health science policy analyst in the Office of Science Policy, Planning, Evaluation, and Reporting. He plans, develops, and conducts research on key science policy issues related to minority health and health disparities. Additionally, he collaborates with other professionals both within and outside the NIMHD to carry out research aligned with the NIH's strategic plan. His areas of expertise include epidemiology, biostatistics, machine learning algorithms and data analytics.
Dr. Elfaramawi's professional journey includes serving as a scientific review officer at the Center for Scientific Review, where he managed the Cardiovascular and Respiratory Diseases Study Section. Previously, he was an associate professor of epidemiology and directed the doctoral program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Throughout his career, Dr. Elfaramawi has led and co-led multiple federally funded research projects supported by the NIH and CDC. His research contributions are evident in numerous publications in medical journals, with a focus on chronic non-communicable and communicable diseases epidemiology. His international experience includes a role as a statistician for Chronic Disease and Health Promotion Department at the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
Dr. Elfaramawi has a Ph.D. in public health, specializing in epidemiology and statistical data analysis, from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He also holds a master's degree in preventive medicine and a bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery, both from Cairo University.
