National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month
If you or someone you know is struggling or having thoughts of suicide, call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline at 988 or chat at 988lifeline.org. In life-threatening situations, call 911.
Mental illness does not discriminate. In the U.S., 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 6 youth aged 6-17 experience mental illness each year regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, or socioeconomic status. July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month—a time to raise awareness about the unique psychological struggles that people from racial and ethnic minority communities face.
Mental health research is an important component of NIMHD’s research portfolio and outreach efforts—below is a selection of NIMHD work at the intersection of minority health, health disparities and mental health.
