Dr. Carolina Solis Sanabria is a program official in the Division of Clinical and Health Services Research and a board-certified general surgeon with a focus on surgical disparities, global health and general surgery. She has done work in Nicaragua evaluating surgical capacity in Ministry of Health hospitals as well as surgical outcomes research in emergency and general surgery. She also has interests in immigrant, rural and Hispanic health.

She received her B.S. in biology and French from Yale College, and her M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 2009. She then trained in general surgery at Duke University Medical Center and Inova Fairfax Hospital. During her residency, she obtained an MPH from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health with a concentration in global health in 2012, and spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar in Nicaragua conducting surgical research. Since completing her residency at Inova Fairfax Hospital in 2017, she has practiced as a general surgeon in the Washington, D.C. area, as well as in rural settings in Oklahoma, Montana, North Carolina and Virginia.

She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and currently practices as a surgeon with the Holy Cross Health Center in Montgomery County, Maryland.
